How to Prepare Your Scrap Metal for Collection
24 June 2026You don't need to do much, but a few simple steps before we collect can lift your price and speed up the whole process. Here's what helps.
Sort by metal where you can
Keeping copper, brass, aluminium and steel in separate piles means each is paid at its proper grade rather than a lower mixed rate. Even rough separation helps.
Remove obvious contamination
Strip non-metal attachments where it's safe and practical — plastic, rubber, timber and concrete all lower the grade. Don't worry about perfection; we finish grading on collection.
Think about access and safety
- Keep the scrap somewhere our vehicle can reach
- Flag any hazardous items (gas struts, sealed vessels, batteries)
- Let us know rough weights so we send the right vehicle

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to sort my scrap?
No, but sorting by metal type usually gets you a better price, since mixed loads are paid at a lower blended rate. We finish grading on collection.
Should I remove plastic and rubber?
Where it's safe and practical, yes — non-metal contamination lowers the grade. Don't worry about being perfect.
How do I get an accurate quote before collection?
Send us a WhatsApp photo with a rough weight and your location, and we'll give you a current price.
