Ferrous Scrap
We buy ferrous metal — steel and iron — in any volume, from light iron and offcuts to heavy plate, beams and cast iron. With our own processing and export chain, we offer competitive prices and fast, documented collection for businesses of every size.
Ferrous We Purchase
- Heavy melting steel (HMS 1 & 2)
- Light iron & mixed steel
- Cast iron
- Structural beams & sections
- Rebar & reinforcing steel
- Steel pipe & tube
- Steel sheet & plate
- Factory & demolition steel

Ferrous Grades We Accept
Sorted or mixed — we grade fairly so you get the right price for each type.

Heavy Steel (HMS)
Heavy melting steel — thick plate and heavy sections.

Light Iron
Thin, light steel and mixed iron offcuts.

Cast Iron
Engine blocks, machine bases and cast components.

Steel Beams
Structural beams, columns and sections.

Rebar
Reinforcing bar from construction and demolition.

Iron Pipe
Steel and iron pipe and tube.

Iron Sheet
Steel sheet and plate offcuts.
How to Identify Ferrous
- Ferrous metal is magnetic — a magnet sticks firmly to steel and iron.
- Steel often shows surface rust; cast iron is darker and brittle.
- Heavy melting steel is thick (6mm+); light iron is thin sheet and offcuts.
- Cast iron snaps rather than bends and has a grainy fracture.
- If a magnet does not stick, it is a non-ferrous metal.
Common Sources
- Factories and engineering workshops
- Construction and demolition sites
- Fabrication offcuts and production scrap
- Agricultural and plant machinery
- Structural steel and roofing
- End-of-life equipment and vehicles

How We Recycle Ferrous
Collection & Weighing
We collect ferrous scrap and weigh it on a certified weighbridge with a clear ticket.
Sorting & Grading
Material is graded into HMS, light iron and cast to maximise value.
Processing
Steel is cut, sheared and prepared to furnace-ready sizes.
Export & Re-melt
Graded steel enters our recycling network for re-melting into new product.
What Affects Your Ferrous Price
We're transparent about pricing — here's what moves the rate you're paid.
Grade & thickness
Heavy melting steel pays more than light or thin iron.
Contamination
Steel free of attachments, concrete and non-metals grades higher.
Steel market
Domestic and export demand set ferrous prices.
Quantity
Larger loads attract better rates and free or bulk collection.

Ferrous Scrap — Common Questions
What is HMS steel?
Heavy Melting Steel (HMS) is thick, heavy ferrous scrap — plate and sections usually 6mm or more. HMS 1 is cleaner/heavier than HMS 2 and pays more.
Do you take cast iron?
Yes — engine blocks, machine bases and cast components are all bought as cast iron, which is graded separately from steel.
Can you clear large volumes of steel?
Yes. We handle everything from a single load to full factory and demolition clearances, with skips and bulk haulage available.
Do you collect ferrous scrap?
Yes — collection across Birmingham and the West Midlands, and nationwide for bulk loads, with weighbridge tickets provided.
