Stainless Steel Scrap

Stainless Steel Scrap

We buy stainless steel from catering, industrial and fabrication sources — including 304, 316, 201 and 403 grades. Stainless is graded by alloy content (especially nickel), so correct sorting makes a real difference to your price.

Categories & Grades

Stainless Grades We Accept

Sorted or mixed — we grade fairly so you get the right price for each type.

304 Stainless

304 Stainless

The most common grade — non-magnetic, ~18/8 chrome-nickel.

316 Stainless

316 Stainless

Marine grade with added molybdenum — higher value.

201 Stainless

201 Stainless

Lower-nickel grade, priced below 304.

403 Stainless

403 Stainless

400-series, magnetic, lower nickel content.

Stainless Sheet

Stainless Sheet

Sheet and plate offcuts from fabrication.

Pipe & Tube

Pipe & Tube

Stainless pipe and tube.

Tanks & Vessels

Tanks & Vessels

Stainless tanks and process vessels.

Turnings

Turnings

Stainless machining turnings and swarf.

Identification Guide

How to Identify Stainless

  • Stainless resists rust and keeps a bright, clean finish.
  • 300-series (304/316) is usually non-magnetic; 400-series (403) is magnetic.
  • 316 contains molybdenum and is used in marine and chemical settings.
  • A grade test kit or spark test helps confirm 304 vs 316.
  • Heavier than aluminium; does not corrode like mild steel.

Common Sources

  • Catering and commercial kitchens
  • Food, dairy and brewing plant
  • Fabrication and sheet-metal workshops
  • Chemical and process industries
  • Architectural and balustrade work
  • Pharmaceutical and medical equipment

Recycling Process

How We Recycle Stainless

Step 1

Collection & Weighing

We collect and weigh your stainless on auditable scales with a clear ticket.

Step 2

Grade Testing

We test and separate 304, 316 and 400-series to get you the right price.

Step 3

Processing

Material is consolidated to clean, graded stock.

Step 4

Export & Re-melt

Graded stainless enters our recycling network for re-melting.

Price Factors

What Affects Your Stainless Price

We're transparent about pricing — here's what moves the rate you're paid.

Nickel content

316 and 304 contain nickel and pay more than 201 or 400-series.

Cleanliness

Stainless free of attachments, plastic and contamination grades higher.

Alloy market

Nickel and chrome prices drive stainless values.

Quantity

Larger, grade-separated loads attract better rates.

FAQs

Stainless Scrap — Common Questions

How do I tell 304 from 316 stainless?

Both are usually non-magnetic, but 316 contains molybdenum for corrosion resistance and is worth more. We grade-test material on collection so you're paid correctly.

Is magnetic stainless worth less?

Magnetic 400-series (e.g. 403) contains little or no nickel, so it's priced below 304/316. We separate it to value each grade fairly.

Do you buy stainless turnings?

Yes — stainless turnings and swarf are bought by grade, drained of coolant where possible.

Do you collect stainless for free?

Yes — free collection across Birmingham and the West Midlands for qualifying loads.
